Missions

Missions for All Ages, Youth and Adults

Alternative Giving Fair

Children’s Sunday School classes sell gift cards on Sundays in December to support the work of a sponsored charity.  The card explains that a donation has been made in the recipient’s honor to a specified charity, and includes a description of the charity and its work.  Cards make beautiful, meaningful "alternative" holiday gifts.

Blanket Ministries
Money is collected year-round to purchase fleece for blankets, which are crafted by hand by church members of all ages.  They are then distributed to a variety of organizations for distribution to those in need.  The door is always open for additional people to help make the blankets – it’s fun & easy!

C.A.U.S.E. (Youth and Adults only)

C.A.U.S.E. provides clothing, a thrift shop, food , social services, and Christian counseling to all in need in the Jersey City area. Articles are collected for the thrift shop, and volunteers deliver items to the shop in Jersey City.

Church-wide Mission Service Day

Service days are held several times a year on Sunday mornings.  After a brief morning worship, all ages participate in mission and outreach opportunities inside and outside the church walls.  The morning is uplifting and one of the many ways we worship God.

Cranford Family Care
The first Sunday of each month, donations are collected for Cranford Family Care (CFC) food pantry, which distributes to local families in need.  Gift cards and cold weather items (hats, scarves, gloves) are also collected as part of the Alternative Giving Campaign during Advent.

Cranford Hall Visitation
One Sunday afternoon each month teams meet to sing, chat and develop relationships with residents of Cranford Hall Nursing Home.  Please check the Lamplighter for visitation dates.

CROP Hunger Walk

Help raise awareness and funds to fight the causes of hunger. Join the ecumenical CROP Walk in October!

Letter Writing
Volunteers write cards and letters to the home bound in our congregation.

Meal Preparation
Church members prepare and deliver meals to families in need, due to illness or home damage.

Plainfield Free Meals (Youth and Adults only)
Covenant UMC in Plainfield serves meals to approximately 100 needy people from surrounding communities year-round. Cranford UMC volunteers prepare, serve and clean up after the meal on the 4th Monday of each month.

R.I.S.E. (Youth and Adults only)

Youth and adults travel to rural upstate NY for one week in the summer to perform service for people in need. Teams help build, repair, paint and carry out tasks to provide adequate and safe housing.  New volunteers are always welcome!

Samaritan Sandwich Ministry

Join our growing group of sandwich makers for St Joseph's shelter in Elizabeth, the third Sunday of the "odd" months (Jan., March, May, July, Sept., Nov.)  Bring sandwiches to worship and put in the church refrigerator (marked Sandwich Ministry) for distribution.  This is a great project for family and friends!

UMCOR Relief Kits

The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) has an ongoing need for Supply Kits used in times of crises around the world. Contact the church to see which kits are needed  - bedding, health, layette, school, sewing, or flood buckets - and the specific items to include.

Walk for the Ages
A walk to raise funds for the Fellowship Fund of the UMC, so that no one will have to leave any of the United Methodist Homes if they run out of money.

Welcome Bread
Church members deliver bread and information on Cranford United Methodist Church to first time visitors as a welcome gift.
